Where: This hideaway village and its white sandy beaches are reached by road only one hour from Sanur. The PADI Dive Centre and Resort of Absolute Scuba Bali are located on the northern beachfront of Padang Bay harbour. A short boat ride will then takes you to one of 17 Bali Dive Sites
Highlights: Bright white sand and colorful corals are home to everything from the smallest reef fishes to all manner of marine life; rays, cuttlefish, crocodile fish, and frequent shark & turtle and even Mola Mola Sunfish sightings.
Conditions: Much more gentle & protected than the islands off the East coast, and for this reason with much warmer waters too.
Blue Lagoon Padang Bai
Blue Lagoon has white sandy beach and shallow clear blue waters make this an excellent site for both snorklers and divers. Underwater, the bright sand and healthy bommies always offer something interesting; Octopus, Eels, Crocodile Fish and Stonefish to name just a few. Head north and you can find a short but rich stretch of wall. Excellent night diving location.
Jepun to Turtle's Neck
This shallow stretch of coral and rubble always seems to offer some excellent non-fish marine life; sometimes juvenile sharks, sometimes cuttlefish, sometimes octopus. One of the best sites in Bali for a turtle encounter.
Blue Lagoon to Tanjung Sari
Another shallow dive, with vibrant corals leading down to a sandy slope, with colorful reef fish, bright sunlight, and warm crystal clear waters, this is what tropical diving is all about.
THE EAST COAST ISLANDS
Where: These small islands and rocky outcrops lie just a kilometer off the East coast of Bali . In good conditions the three in Amuk Bay - Gili Tepekong, Gili Mimpang & Gili Biaha - can be reached in a 10-15 minutes by speedboat from Padang Bai.
Highlights: Dive these islands for the best chance of seeing sharks in Bali . Lots of big ocean fish & swirls of reef fish are everywhere. In areas battered by the currents the coral growth is stunted, but still healthy and full of life. In the more sheltered areas the corals can match those of Nusa Penida. Majestic underwater rock formations.
Conditions: All these sites are prone to the strongest currents, which can then bring in some chilling water. This can cause temperatures to drop from the usual high 20° C down to the low 20°s instead. Very often great visibility, with calm conditions in the high tide window. |

Tulamben has four main dive sites, however a combination of these offer a never-ending opportunity to discover new “cleaning stations” or rarely seen nudibranches or even bigger fish.
Tulamben Wreck
USAT Liberty Wreck in Tulamben is directly situated near the beach on Bali 's northeast coast. The 120m long wreck rests on a 90 degree angle with the deck facing the sea side. You may dive or snorkel this wreck comfortably, accessing it directly from the beach.
History:
The U.S.A.T. Liberty was built in America as a cargo ship and during World War 2 was equipped with two guns. Anchored off the coast of Lombok , the ship was hit by a Japanese torpedo during World War II. Miraculously nobody got hurt, but the damage turned the ship into a non-functioning and useless hull. The American Navy's plan to tow the ship to Singaraja harbor (north Bali ) failed as the harbor was completely occupied, so the ship was intentionally stranded on the rocky beach of Tulamben , where it was unloaded. In 1963 the volcano Agung erupted and the magma flow pressed the ship back into the sea where it presently rests at a depth of 3 to 29 meters. Since then, coral covered the wreckage completely and turned it into a home for many species of fish. From time to time, reef sharks, big Napoleon Wrasse or huge barracuda drops by.
